School of the Freudian Cause. FORUM AGAINST THE FREEDOM-KILLING AMENDMENT — Chronicle

On Thursday, November 20, 2025, the School of the Freudian Cause (ECF) in Paris organized a live event on Lacan Web TV, broadcast via streaming, in order to take a stand against an amendment introduced on November 14 and submitted for a vote in the Senate on November 19th. This amendment sought to prohibit the reimbursement of “care, acts, and services that claim or are based on psychoanalytic theoretical foundations.”

In doing so, it once again constituted a serious attack on democratic freedom and the equality of patients and medical professionals, by targeting psychoanalysis specifically. It also revealed a lack of scientific rigor and a deep misunderstanding of the actual organization of the French healthcare system.

The Forum provided an opportunity to listen for more than four hours to speakers who advocated for psychoanalysis, defending its ethics and the significant contribution of its practice to mental health care—both public and private—in France. Radio Lacan joins this initiative by publishing the chronicle by our colleague and ECF member, Patrick Almeida.

On November 22, we learned with relief of the withdrawal of Amendment 159 in the Senate, although we remain highly attentive to what may follow.
